Two riders from the Emyvale C.C Paul Brady Representing I.T Sligo. Paul who is on a Sports Scholarship Studying Physiology. Aiden Mc Donald Representing University of Ulster Jordanstown and Studying Building Surveying. Both these riders took part in the Intervarsity Cycling Championships. The championships were held on Friday 24th February at the NUI Galway

The event was a combination of two events, a 10Mile Time-Trial in the morning and a 60mile Road Race in the afternoon. Competitors were required to contest both events for the selection of the upcoming World University Cycling Championships that will be held in Antwerp Belgium on the 22nd-26th of March. There were 32 riders from Universities all over Ireland North and South Taking part in this very prestigious event. The selection would come down to seven riders to go forward and Represent their Country at the World Championships in Belgium. Sign on for the time-trial in the morning over a very tough course around Moycullen and Brady took a very credible sixth place that got him up into the points with Aiden just outside the points.

The big event was the Road-Race in the afternoon that would sort the men’s from the Boys out. The road race began and it was flat out from the drop of the flag and it was not long before there was a major breakaway group of 7 riders that included Brady in this group and Aiden in the main bunch that was down 40seconds on the lead group coming to the last 5 mile there was a furious attack from this field of 7 riders and on the last mile Brady out sprinted 5 of the riders and got a brilliant second place finish to clame a sliver medal and a position on the Irish University Team. Aiden Mc Donald finished strong in the main bunch and was just out-side the selections for the team.
